Manipur lagging behind in organic farming: Dir NCOF

Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India has earmarked an amount of Rs 100 crore for developing organic farming in northeastern States, said Dr Krishan Chandra, Director of National Centre of Organic Farming (NCOF), Government of India.
Informing this in a press meet held at the office of Regional Centre of Organic Farming located at Lamphelpat here on Thursday, Dr Krishan Chandra further said that development of organic farming in the State is lagging behind as compared to other States though the former has vast knowledge of the field.
He informed that organic certification course will be conducted for farmers of the State to provide knowledge of organic culture and self help group or farmers' club will also be formed in every district through which funds will be sanctioned to develop the organic farming.
To do the needful, ten villages in each of the district will be grouped and minimum amount of Rs 10 lakh will be sanctioned for each district, he added.
He maintained that organic farming could be enhanced by using vermin compose and bio fertilizer of which the knowledge will be shared to farmers of the State too.
