TKL urged to work for inter-community harmony

Imphal, October 30 2022: While hailing Tangkhul Katamnao Long (TKL), Imphal for its contribution towards promoting and preserving Tangkhul culture, tradition and uniting the members of the community, education minister Th Basantakumar has urged the organisation to expand its focus on bringing unity and integrity among different indigenous communities of the state as well.

Speaking as chief guest of the 26th cultural meet of TKL, Imphal held at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium here on Sunday, the minis ter observed that Tangkhul culture is one of the oldest and most beautiful cultures of the state.

Among other organisations, TKL Imphal has been working towards enhancing the profile of the millennia old Tangkhul culture and tradition besides striving towards uniting the Tangkhul community, especially among the students.

While expressing happiness on learning that over 15,000 Tangkhul students are studying in different educational institutions in Imphal area, the minister said that human society today is in an advanced stage and it is necessary for the people of the state, especially the youth, to work harder for becoming part of the fast pace global society.

It is important to keep aside the individual outlook and work towards a common goal with unity in order to become part of the global society, he said.

Talking about the importance of language in bringing together people of different communities, the minister said that the state government, under the vision of chief minister N Biren, has taken up an initiative for imparting training on learning languages of some select communities of the state.

Under the programme, lan guage learners under the age of 50 years will be provided a stipend of Rs 5000 each, he said, while urging the public to participate in the training programme and contribute in bridging the gap among the communities.

Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah, Manipur University of Culture vice-chancellor Paonam Gunindro, PHED chief engineer Shangreiphao Vashum, RBI general manager Thotngam Jamang and prominent figures of Tangkhul community also participated in the event.

TKL Imphal also submitted a memorandum to the education minister with the request to construct a guest house for Tangkhul students at Sangakpham.
