Imphal, November 25 2011:
Demanding the Government to devise effective price control measures in view of the protracted highway blockade which has resulted in escalation of prices of all commodities, women vendors and business community of Khwairamband Keithel staged a protest demonstration today.
On the other hand, women activists attacked some shops with stones for opening their shops instead of joining the protest demonstration.
Multiple protest demonstrations were staged today at different areas of Khwairamband Keithel in continuation of the series of agitation launched by the Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur against price hike and scarcity of goods.
Because of the protest demonstration, no business transaction took place at Khwairamband Keithel today.
All shops and markets remained shut for the day.
The slogans raised by the protesters included, "Don't make the people suffer any longer because of weak administration", "Make all highways blockade-proof", "Ensure abundant availability of essential goods at the earliest", "Devise effective price control measures", "Disband all black-marketing cartels", "Make arrangements for shipping in essential commodities from Myanmar", Make Imphal-Moreh route disturbance free", "Complete all highway development works without any further delay", "Set up ethnic economic development councils" etc.
