Imphal, December 10 2016:
BJP MP and Manipur in-charge Prahlad Singh Patel has asked the Ibobi Government as to why it never thought about creating any new district during the past 15 years before it came out with the announcement of seven new districts when the State Assembly election is just about two months away.
Patel said this while flagging off a mass rally from Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai Yumjao Lairembi Lampak.
The rally was organised by the BJP Manipur Pradesh Mahila Morcha against the State Government's failure to resolve the protracted issue of economic blockade and it wound up at BJP Manipur Pradesh office, Nityaipat Chuthek here.
Speaking to media persons after flagging off the rally, Prahlad Singh Patel remarked that there might be genuine need for creation of new districts.
But many people could not help but question the timing of Ibobi Government's decision to create new districts while it never bothered to create any new district during the past 15 years.
The Congress Government was trying to hoodwink the people of Manipur by creating new districts when the State Assembly election is round the corner, he charged.
Asserting that the new districts were not created in the interest of the people of Manipur, Prahlad Singh Patel maintained that it would only bring turmoil in the State.
The ongoing economic blockade and the State Govt's failure to do anything to get it lifted has been tabled in Parliament, he added.
BJP Manipur Pradesh Mahila Morcha president N Sumatibala pointed out that the people of Manipur have been reeling under extreme misery on account of the UNC's economic blockade.
