Drug seizure instances continue unabated

Imphal, January 10 2022:
A team of Bishnupur commandos arrested Md Munan Khan (42) along with 49 soap cases containing heroin powder yesterday around 6.30 pm at Pangal Lamkhai Crossing, Kwakta under Moirang police station.
Disclosing this to the media today, SP of Bishnupur police N Herojit, stated that a Bishnupur commando team under the command of Mayengbam Roni, Additional SP (Ops) led by Subedar Y Shaktishen, OC Bishnupur commando, and under his overall supervision carried out intensified frisking and checking along Tiddim road to check illegal transportation of drugs to curb the menace of drugs in the district, he added.
During this operation, one person carrying a bag was detained for checking and verification at Pangal Lamkhai crossing, Kwakta.
On checking the bag, the commando team recovered and seized 49 soap cases containing heroin powder weighing 578 grams in total.
On spot verification, the person was identified as Md Munan Khan (42) of Kwakta Terakhongshangbi Ward No 1 and was arrested by observing necessary formalities and will be handed over to Moirang Police for further necessary legal action under ND&PS Act, the SP informed.
The arrested person along with the seized drugs was produced and displayed before media persons after the briefing.
Another 191 grams of suspected heroin powder and 2.159 kg of suspected WY tablets from Sugnu Khongnang Makhong were seized by a team of Kakching district CDO from an individual today.
The CDO team was conducting frisking at Sugnu Khongnang Makhong when an Eeco-Van coming towards Sugnu Khongnang Makhong was signalled to stop.
The vehicle tried to evade the police but was forced to stop by the team.
On spot interrogation, the driver was identified as one Thangminlal Baite (28), s/o Jangkhoiun Baite of Moreh Ward No 1.During checking of the vehicles, the suspected contraband items were found concealed in 16 numbers of soap cases containing the suspected heroin powder and 2 packets containing suspected WY tablets.
A mobile phone was also seized from him.
The arrested person along with the seized items have been handed over to Sugnu police station for further legal action.
