Manipuri man lynched at Meluri

A Manipuri man was allegedly beaten to death by a mob at Meluri, Phek district of Nagaland on Thursday afternoon.
The man was identified as one Ibobi Singh, who hailed from Manipur and a carpenter by profession.
He was said to be in his late 30s and survived by two minor children, a 7-year old son and 5-year old daughter.
A report gauged from the locals said the mob lynched the man accusing him to be behind the "rape and murder" of an 11-year old girl at Meluri on Wednesday evening.
The minor girl yesterday left her house at 5pm on her mother's errand to get some items from a shop.
However, she failed to return home.
Later, the girl's naked body was reported to be found at a cornfield along Athekho Road, near former MLA Kusapho's residence.
The victim girl hailed from Saikun village under Phek district and a student of Christian Mission School in Meluri.
A source from Jessami police station informed that the man was reportedly caught at Tiji river bridge, which is situated between Jessami and Meluri town.
Police said the details were not known as no proper communication has been established with their counterparts at Nagaland's border town.
A source said Singh was then taken to Meluri and lynched to death allegedly by a mob at the town's public ground in the afternoon.
The body is now reportedly being kept at the police station.
