Addressing the gathering, N Biren said that the government, since its formation, has been working on all sides to ensure easy access to welfare programmes and benefits by its people.

While stating that the government will always work for welfare of the people within the ambit of the Constitution of India, he stressed that all communities should stand together and strive to take the state to newer heights of development.

N Biren also claimed that his government has done away with the habit of doing vote bank politics and blaming each other to take political advantage.

Mentioning that education acquired from a teacher has very important role in everyone's achievement in life, the chief minister stated that Teachers' Day is celebrated to make the younger generation aware about the role of teachers and imbibe them with the culture of paying respect and honouring their mentors.

N Biren, while appreciating the award winners for their selfless service in guiding the students of the state, expressed hope that the teachers would continue to render their services with much dedication.

He informed that considering the high pass percentage of students in the High School Leaving Certificate Examination this year, the government has approved upgrade of 10 high schools to higher secondary level to accommodate the increasing number of students.

He also confided that the government is planning upgrade of more high schools on need basis.

Informing that coaching class for UPSC Civil Service Examination which was earlier held virtually would be started soon at State Academy of Training wherein 200 students would undergo face to face training imparted by best IAS mentors from Delhi, he stated that arrangement would be made for VSAT classes at different locations to accommodate more students.

N Biren continued that Chief Minister's College Maheiroi e-support Scheme (CMCMESS) aims to equip the meritorious college students of the state belonging to lower income group with the required digital device to take part in the online education which is an important mode of education in the present time.

Delivering his presidential speech, education minister Sorokhaibam Rajen said that the Education Department has been putting in best efforts to provide education to students even during the hard times of Covid-19 pandemic through online classes.

He applauded the services of the officials concerned for declaring the results of Class 10 and 10+2 examinations even though the physical examinations were cancelled due to the pandemic.

Taking note of the increased pass percentage of students, he appealed to students not to get worried for their admission as the government has already started upgrading high schools to higher secondary schools.

S Rajen informed that under the 2nd Phase of School Fagat-hansi Mission, infrastructure facilities of 60 schools would be developed.

Already, the number of students enrolled in government schools has increased after launching of the Mission.

Under the CMC-MESS scheme, smart phones have been allocated to 2,000 students in 13 districts so far, he added.
