Governor assures development of Behiang
Source: Chronicle News Service / DIPR

Imphal, January 31 2023: Governor La Ganesan on Tuesday visited border village Behiang in Singngat sub-division of Churachandpur district and interacted with District Level Officers (DLOs), representatives of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), village chiefs, chairmen and villagers.

The Governor during the visit also heard about issues and grievances raised by villagers and assured to extend all possible help in larger interest of the people.

Speaking at the interaction programme held at Behiang Public Ground, the Gover nor informed he came to the sub-division to learn about the problems faced by people and explore ways and means to address it.

He said issues related to education, healthcare, connectivity, etc., would be taken care of on priority basis and continued that he would intimate departments concerned to look into the matter and also the chief minister to take necessary steps in the larger interest of the people.

Ganesan further stated that issues of drug abuse, poppy cultivation and drug trafficking have been crippling the state and the government has been trying to curtail all these issues with War on Drugs campaign.

However, he noticed that the number of drug users particularly among the youth has instead increased manifold during the last few months.

This has to be, in any case, prevented with collective efforts from like-minded CSOs and general public, he said while conveying his support in every initiative of state government in curbing this menace.

Expressing concern over illegal migration, smuggling of drugs, weapons and other contraband items prevailing in the state, he also said that movement of illegal migrants from neighbouring countries should be prevented at any cost.

In this regard, government alone cannot prevent it and full cooperation from the general public is indispensable, he added.

While urging for extending cooperation to security forces and authority concerned to contain crimes, the Governor said, only then, peace loving people of this state will be able to live peacefully.

Ganesan also touched upon the need for full vaccination and appealed to the villagers to get vaccinated at the earliest.

On TB elimination, he directed the health department to conduct a survey to find out TB patients and accordingly carry out remedial measures.

Central government has already committed to eliminate TB from the soil of India by 2025, he added.

The Governor also acknowledged the progress of Churachandpur district and thanked the district authorities for their effort in holistic development of the district.

Singngat MLA Chinlunthang, taking part in the interaction programme, thanked the Governor for visiting the border village which has a lot of potential in tourism and trade.

Earlier DLOs made presentations on various developmental activities taken up in the district.

During the event, United Zou Organisation also submitted a memorandum to the governor urging to open a public library at Behiang.

Ganesan also visited A Company, 46 Assam Rifles, forward post at Behiang and interacted with officers and jawans posted at the area.

He also visited Chivu Chandrakirti Memorial Park at Tonjang.

Earlier, the Governor was accorded a warm welcome on his arrival by MLA Chinlunthang, Churachandpur deputy commissioner Sharath Chandra Arroju, SP Shivananda Surve and other officials at Tonjang helipad.

He was accompanied by his secretary Waikhom Bobby during the visit.
