Kakching, September 25 2011:
In retaliation to the irresponsible acts of UNC blockade supporters who damaged many vehicles and even injured a driver critically, bandh supporters of Imphal Chandel Bandh today burn down a Mini Truck 407 at Kakching Lamkhai which was carrying iron pipes and other housing materials from Imphal to Chandel.
Meanwhile, Kakching Police and Thoubal district Commandos who rushed there to prevent further unwanted incidents picked up 12 bandh supporters but released them later in the evening after MLA Y Surchandra intervened.
The police team repeatedly tried to disperse the bandh supporters from Kakching Lamkhai by firing tear gas shells and smoke bombs from early morning.
As soon as the police team rounded up the 12 bandh supporters, hundreds of women thronged into the Kakching Police Station and demanded unconditional release of the 12 persons and questioned the motive of the police on their inactive response when UNC blockade supporters burnt and destroyed many vehicles at Thamnapokpi area which even injured a driver in critical condition.
As the situation worsened, Additional SP (Operations) Thoubal district Jugeshchandra Haobijam came and persuaded the women by assuring them to discuss the matter and release the persons.
Kakching MLA Y Surchandra also rushed at the Police Station and assured the women that the 12 bandh supporters will be released safely.
