Indo-Myanmar meet on setting Thermal-Power Plant held

India and Myanmar today held talks to discuss primarily the setting up of a Thermal-Power plant in Sagaing Region of Myanmar under the sponsorship of Government of India to facilitate power sharing.
The meeting between the delegates from India and Myanmar was held at the office of Tamu Township Army Headquarter at around 10.30 today.
Govindas Konthoujam, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Manipur led the Indian team during the talks, while on the Myanmar side, U.Khin Maung soe, Union Minister of Electric Power, Sagaing region was the team leader.
The meeting primarily discussed setting up of a Thermal power plant in Sagaing region of Myanmar.

U.Khin Maung Soe stated that he would intimate the decision after consultation with higher authority of Myanmar government.
If agreed, the proposed Thermal-power plant would be raised at the site provided by Myanmar while the necessary equipment would be borne by India Government.
On the agenda of issuing of visa for enabling the citizens of both countries to cross each other's territory, Minister Govindas assured the Myanmarese team that process for the same is going on at present.
The India team members at the meeting urged Myanmar delegation to extend moral support to the construction of proposed Integrated Check Post (ICP) on Indian side.
Regarding the detention of 6 Indians (Manipuris) by Myanmar security forces, Myanmar team leader U.Khin Maung Soe expressed confidence that actions would be initiated at the high level to ensure their safe release at the earliest possible.
During the meeting between two neighboring countries, Indian team comprised among others Dr..NNandakumar, Consulate General, Embassy of India, Mandalay; Robert Singh Kshetrimayum (IAS), Additional Deputy Commissioner, Moreh; Sharat Singh, Chief Engineer, Electricity Department, Manipur and V.Sekhar, president of Border Trade & Chamber of Commerce, Moreh.
On the Myanmar side, Eu-Kya Win, State Power Minister of Sagaing Region and U.Hla Maung, chairman of Border Trade, Chamber of commerce, Tamu also took part in the meeting.
