Vocational training for destitute women ends on positive note

A six-month long vocational training programme for destitute women and girls for the year 2013-14 organized by Social Welfare Department ended at Welfare Training Institute, Takyelpat here yesterday.
Speaking at the concluding function as Chief Guest, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai noted that development in the society will be hindered if women are suppressed as their contribution towards bringing development are vital in every aspect and informed that the government has been taking up various measures to uplift condition of women in the State.
She exhorted the women to make best uses of the knowledge they received from the vocational training programme and find out their source of livelihood in coming days with the help of the knowledge.
Informing that such training programme will be held in batch wise and special preference will be given to disabled persons in the next batch, the Minister maintained that the government will try to provide electric sewing machines and other latest embroidery machines so as to provide them with modern way of learning.
Around 120 trainees from different parts of the State will take part in next training programme, she added.
As part of the concluding function, sewing machines and certificates were presented to women trainees.
Today's function was also attended by SK Dev Burman, Principal Secretary (Social Welfare) as President; H Rupachandra, Joint Secretary of Social Welfare Department and L Ibomcha, Commissioner (Disabled) as Guests of Honor.
