JnNURM buses spread out : 'Auto services not to be affected'

Imphal, June 14 2012: Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, who is also the Chairman of Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA), flagged off the 10 more semi-low floor buses to be fanned out along three different routes in Imphal from MSRTC office complex today.

The semi-low floor buses have been sanctioned to Manipur under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission (JnNURM) .

The three routes along which the 10 newly introduced buses would ply are from Canchipur to Koirengei BSF camp (Route I); from Malom bazaar to Khurai Chaithabi Leikai (Route-II) and from Imphal West DC office to Imphal East DC office (Route-III) .

Four buses would ply along route 1 after an interval of every one hour.

While 3 buses each would ply along the two remaining routes (II & III) after an interval of one hour starting from 7 am to 5 pm daily.

All passengers will be charged Rs 10 each for ride in these buses.

For the buses plying on route number 1, i.e.from MU gate to Koirengei, the stoppage points will be at Temple of Learning, Naorem Leikai, Narasingh Temple, Kakwa Police Station, Waikhom Leikai, Mayeng Leikai, Singjamei Girls School, Singjamei Bus stop, Yumnam Leikai Lairembi, Moirangkhom Bazaar, Telephone Bhawan, Nupi Lal Complex, M-Sector, Old Assembly road, Christian Literature Centre, PWD Bus stand, DM College southern gate, Eastern Motors Chingmeirong, Gauhati High Court, STPI, Mantripukhri Post Office, Khabam Lamkhai, Liberal College and Manipur Public School.

The stoppage points for route 2, i.e.from Malom Bazaar to Khurai Chaithabi Leikai are at Airport, Herbert School entry, Imphal College, Kwakeithel Bazaar, Takhel Leikai, Keishampat parking, Electricity office, M Sector, Old Assembly road, Christian Literature Centre, PWD Bus stand, DM College southern gate, MMTA, Hatta Crossing, NRL pump, Lai Awangba, Lamlong Bazaar, Lai Khurembi, Salanthong entry and Chairenthong.

For route 3, i.e.from Imphal West DC office to Imphal East DC office, the stoppage points are Naorenthong NG College entry, Uripok Canteen Leirak entry, Jas Gas (Uripok), Gambhir Singh Shopping Complex, Kangla Bus stop, Nityaipat Bus Stand, Kangla Southern gate, Sajenthong office colony Entry, Palace gate, Checkon bazaar, Anand Singh Higher Secondary School, Porompat Crossing and Panchayat Bhawan.

After flagging off the buses, Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar personally rode on a bus upto Canchipur to officially announce starting of JnNURM buses services along three different routes.

Later, speaking to media persons, Minister Kh Ratankumar expressed hope that diversifying the routes would certainly help in improving the public transport system.

The service which was started from today is on a trial basis for one month.

Feedbacks from the public would be considered for bringing about necessary changes.

He further informed that a revised BPR will be prepared so as to make way for the remaining semi-low floor buses sanctioned under JnNURM to press into service.

The Minister appealed to the people for co-operation in the developmental programmes taken up by the government and help in making Imphal a model city.

Reacting against the apprehension of the Auto Owners and Drivers Welfare Association, Minister Kh Ratankumar assured that the service of semi-low floor buses would not affect the services of auto in Imphal.

Semi-low floor bus services and auto services are being carried out side by side in other states of India, he pointed out.

The flagging off ceremony was also attended by Transport Commissioner, Ram Muivah; MAHUD Commissioner, S Sunderlal; Chief Town Planner, Geetkumar and M Lokendro, Chief Engineer, PWD.
