AR units celebrate Independence Day

Imphal, August 16, 2012: To mark the fervor and festivity of 66th Independence Day, Assam Rifles units under the aegis of HQ IGAR (S) participated in and organized various functions throughout the State.

The programmes commenced with hoisting of the National Flag followed by rendition of National Anthem at HQ IGAR(South) and Formation HQs/BN HQs/COBs and continued with various cultural and folk items presented by different schools and youth clubs, said a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S).

Participation of locals remained the highlight of the programme with patriotic songs, cultural programme and skits presented by students and members of youth clubs.

With the theme 'Unity in Diversity,' 30 Assam Rifles organized various events yesterday in commemoration of the 66th Independence Day.

The event commenced with the Flag Hoisting Ceremony followed by Drawing and Sports Competition conducted at 'Zion Children Home' at Mapao Khullen village, Leishemba Maheikol School, Chingarel and Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong in the presence of the village elders and leaders.

Troops of the unit interacted with the populace and emphasized on the need and importance of such events for boosting the morale of the budding talent along with better acquaintance of the children with the rich cultural heritage and history of our nation.

During the celebration prizes and sweets were also distributed to the children in order to encourage and motivate them.

A total of 150 children participated at various events.

A colourful Independence Day was celebrated by 28 Assam Rifles at Assam Rifles Senior Secondary School, Keithalmanbi and all COBs.

Flag hoisting ceremony was held at Keithalmanbi followed by cultural programme organised by the students of the School.

President ARWWA HQ 9 Sector AR graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Flag hoisting ceremony was organised at Bashikong High School by Canchipur Post, Lau Pau Chum High School by Andro Post and Lilong Post at Nungai Junior High School.

Children participated in the event with full zest and enthusiasm and were distributed books and stationary.

Battalion's Pipe band participated in the State Independence day celebrations at Kangla.

15 Assam Rifles celebrated independence day at Thoubal.

Military Band was displayed in the Independence Day celebration of District Administration of Thoubal dist.

Commandant 15 AR alongwith other civil dignitaries attended the function.

18 Sikh celebrated Independence day alongwith Police Officers, representatives from police stations, Imphal West Commando, students, NCC cadets, village authorities and local populace.

23 Assam Rifles celebrated independence day with full military traditions & patriotic fervour in Ukhrul District.

An interaction session also organised with village authorities of Shangshak Khullen, Shangshak Phunghon, Nungshang, Koushou Leishi, Leiting, Phalang, Shakok, Lungriphung and Sangjing villages.

6 DOGRA, celebrated Independence Day with various celebratory functions and competitions at Moltuk Khengjoi, L Bongjoi, Phaisanjang, Khengjang and Molcham.

The programme ended with prize distribution to the winners and a cash incentive to all the participants.

The tree plantation around the area by the students was also organised.

Independence Day celebrated in Sajik Valley by 35 Assam Rifles on the occasion of celebration, Schools, youth clubs and populace of Sajik Valley participated wholeheartedly in the programme.

The highlight of the celebrations was a spirited and flawless marching by the seasoned veteran soldiers of Sajik Valley which drew the loudest cheers.

A breath taking show by bodybuilders of 'Royal Gym' of 35 Assam Rifles won the hearts of the locals.

Participation of locals remained the highlight of the programme with patriotic songs, cultural programme and skits presented by students and members of youth clubs.

All the participants were felicitated by Commandant 35 Assam Rifles.

As part of Independence Day Celebration-2012, 9 Assam Rifles organised a 6 Km 'Run for Peace' in Moreh town on August 14 in association with Moreh Youth Club and Kuki Organisation.

The peace run was flagged off by Commandant 9 Assam Rifles at Moreh College and ended at Kut ground.

More than 100 students/youths from Moreh Town had participated in the event and distributed gifts to the winners of the event, the PRO statement said.
