ILP stir spreads, 8 Students hurt in at Thoubal

Kakching, July 25 2014 : Even though State administration has forced closure of all schools and colleges in Imphal East and Imphal West district, students continue to step out of their classrooms on to the streets to protest the State government's silence on the demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit in the State.

A large number of students from Thoubal College; Waikhom Mani Girls' College, Thoubal; Paradise Academy, Thoubal; Little Star Higher Secondary School, Thoubal and Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School, Thoubal came out and took out a mass rally which ended in a violent scuffle with the police today.

In all, 8 students who received head injuries were rushed to District Hospital, Thoubal for treatment.

The 8 injured students have been identified as Naomila (XII Sc) of Smarei,Yairipok; Th,Laxmiby (XII Sc) of Salungpham; L.Ronibla (Ist semester) of Khangabok; W.Sonia (XII Sc) of Nongpok Sekmai; L.Sahenbi (XII Sc) of Tentha Khongbal; K.Velentina (XII Sc) of Lamding Cherapur; N.Kiranbala (Ist semester) of Khangabok Sorok Wangma and Romita Takhellambam (XII Sc) of Thoubal Ningombam.

Around noon today, a large number of students converged at Thoubal Wangmataba and started to march along the Thoubal Bazar, in front of Police Station, Thoubal holding placards and shouting slogans.

However, they were intercepted by a heavy police presence in front of DC office,Thoubal.

The police in their bid to stop marching students resorted to lathi charging and firing tear gas shells which were replied back by the students with throwing stones.
