Sit in protest on crime against women held at Ukhrul

Ukhrul, July 18 2018:
The Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) Women league organized a sit in protest on Crime Against Women at Community Circle (Gandhi Chowk) Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
President TSL Grace T Shatsang in her keynote address explained the objective of the sit in protest held today.
She said, the protest is not against any specific incident but to protect women from increasing violence against them.
Women are not safe and secure anywhere, she said adding that they have become victims of society.
Women irrespective of caste or community have to join hands and fight for justice, she elucidated.
Ukhrul District Programme Officer, Tabitha explained the various types of crime committed against women in the contemporary world.
She said crime against women does not necessarily mean only sexual assault or forced physical relationship but deprivation of rights and violence against women such as domestic violence, verbal abuse, indecent behavior towards women and added all these are crimes and punishable as per law.
Speeches from TNL president Weapon Zimik and S Shimray VP, TKS were delivered in support of the movement on crime against women.
