ZU flays raids by SFs

The Zeliangrong Union, Imphal Zone has expressed serious concern over the conduct of frequent raid at Khundi Kabui village under Lamsang PS in Imphal West district by combined forces of 18 AR and Manipur police commando during June to September 2015 in the name of counter-insurgency operation.
In a statement, ZU, Imphal Zone said that some of the villagers were apprehended on suspicious ground and many villagers have been traumatised by the alleged atrocities of the security forces.
The ZU pointed out that two villagers — K Poudonlung (50) s/o K Thuigong, a retired MR personnel, and K Machunpou (35) s/o K Iraichao were arrested on suspicion on June 9 .
They were bailed out on June 16 .
A third degree torture was meted out to K Poudonlung during interrogation, it alleged.
On June 25, a villager, P Lucky (30) s/o (L) Lungto was arrested and he was bailed out on August 24 .
On Sept 25, K Jimmy (30) s/o K Poudonlung, a resident of Khundi Kabui but residing at his mother-in-law's residence at Kakhulong, Paona Bazar was arrested on suspicious ground.
He was bailed out on Oct 1 .
Most of the arrested villagers were brutally tortured before they were handed over to the police.
The ZU strongly condemned the alleged atrocities of the security forces who arrested villagers without issuing arrest memo.
It urged the authority concerned to look into the matter and do the needful at the earliest.
