Two civilians hurt in triple IED blasts at Kashung Bungdung

Imphal, July 08 2014:
A least two civilians were injured, one of them critically, when three powerful IED bombs went off in succession near Kashung Bungdung Community Hall under Kasom Khullen Police Station in Ukhrul district at around 9.15 am today.
The injured persons have been identified as S Keneth Tangkhul (45) s/o S Ngathingkhui of Kashung Bungdung, Kangkum village and Laishram Kiran (45) s/o L Ningthempishak of Yairipok, Thoubal district.
Laishram Kiran is said to be in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at RIMS Hospital while S Keneth Tangkhul has been admitted to JNIMS Hospital.
According to reports, some personnel of 44 AR were checking several vehicles plying along Ukhrul-Imphal at Kashung outpost when three powerful IEDs exploded one after other just after an Imphal-bound passenger bus left.

The first bomb went off at the eastern side of Kashung Bungdung Community Hall, the second at southern side and the third one at the northern side of the community hall.
Apart from walls of the hall, an RCC water tanker constructed near the community hall and an electric transformer were also completely damaged in the triple blasts.
At the time of the blasts, Keneth Tangkhul was coming to send some materials for his children studying outside through a bus courier service while Laishram Kiran, who works in a saw mill run by one Jashowan in the area, was hit by bomb splinters while he was coming out the saw mill to wash his clothes.
The triple blast site is situated 1 km away from the post of 44 AR (A Coy) and is the area where they used to conduct ROP duty every day.
After the blasts, a team of Kasom Khullen Police along with AR personnel conducted search operation in the area.
However, there were no reports of any arrest made.
Meanwhile, Kashung Village Authority has strongly condemned the bomb blasts, and called upon the perpetrators to clarify why such inhuman act was carried out.
In a statement, the village authority also urged the government to investigate into the incident and nab the culprits at the earliest.
