693 trucks set to move from Jiri today

693 loaded trucks which are presently stranded at Jiribam will be proceeding to Imphal with tight security tomorrow, our correspondent reports.
The number of loaded trucks is likely to increase tomorrow, sources said.
Of the 693 trucks that will proceed to Imphal tomorrow, 130 are oil tankers, 84 are LPG trucks and 479 trucks are loaded with necessary items like pulses, grains and others.
Mention may be made, some of the 771 empty trucks that left Imphal for Jiribam, reached Jiribam yesterday night while the remaining trucks arrived in the morning today.
In the meantime, 209 vehicles which are stranded at Moreh due to the UNC imposed economic blockade were escorted back safely by a combined team of Chandel district police and Thoubal district police today.
The vehicles which arrived at the State capital from Moreh include Maruti Van, Tata Sumo, Tata DI, Mini truck and others.
It may be mentioned here that a few days back, suspected economic blockade supporters (around 10 in number) burned down one Tata DI and vandalized three vans and two Tata Sumos in between Bongyang and Thamnapokpi under Tengoupal police station on December 2 .
On the other hand, counter economic blockade supporters stopped passenger vehicles and off loaded goods at around 7 am today near the BSNL office at Jiribam today.
