NESO meeting held

The executive council meeting of the North
East Students' Organisation (NESO) - comprising of the Khasi
Students' Union (KSU), All Assam Students' Union (AASU),
Naga Students' Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP),
Twipra Students' Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students' Un-
ion (AMSU), Garo Students' Union (GSU) and All Arunachal
Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) — was held today at
Guwahati.
In the meeting, various issues were deliberated upon that
have been pending with successive Govts of India, conveyed
a statement issued by NESO.
The major issues discussed were on the issues of illegal
infiltration, the house felt that apart from various demands that
had been put forward in the memorandum, the updation of the
National Register of Citizens (NRC), which is currently under
operation in Assam should also be conducted in the whole
North Eastern region with 1951 being the last updated year
and 1971 being the base year.
The repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA)
1958, Special Education Policy for North Eastern Region,
Special Constitutional Status for the North Eastern Region
with rights over land and natural resources were also dis-
cussed.
In this connection, NESO resolved to submit a memoran-
dum to the Prime Minister of India through the Governors of
various States within May 31.
It also resolved to send a delegation to New Delhi to meet
the leaders of the Government of India and also the MPs of
North Eastern region for solving the various pending issues.
