Imphal, August 27 2014: With the office of the Director of RIMS remaining locked by Dr Sinam Sekhorjit even after he has been relief from the post following an order of Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on August 25 by applying three days' casual leave, the Ministry has instructed Dr.Arunkumar, the newly appointed Director to break open the office with a 24-hour notice to the former Director.

In a letter addressed to Director RIMS, Bhama Narayan, Section office (NE), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India instructed Dr.Arunkumar to break open the office which was kept locked by the former Director.

The Ministry's letter further conveyed the new Director to lodge an FIR with the concerned police station complaining that the Ex-Director left the office locked on August 26 and his whereabouts is not known.

It also instructed Dr.Arunkumar to request the District Magistrate concerned to depute a Magistrate at the time of opening of the locked office.

The letter dispatched today afternoon further told the new Director to publish the news prior to opening of the office room.

After 24 hours of publication of the news, the room shall be opened in presence of representatives of police and District Magistrate, the letter said.

Accordingly, Dr.Arunkumar has lodged a complaint with the Lamphel Police Station today afternoon.

Meanwhile, protesting against the removal of Dr.Sekhorjit from the post of Director, a number of students and staff of RIMS including those of Nursing College and Dental College led by the wife of Dr Sekharjit, Dr S.Damayanty, head of department, Anatomy, staged a rally inside the RIMS campus.

The rally which began from Administrative Block was stopped by Police on its way to Casualty department, and it ended at the RIMS Hostel.

Placards with slogans 'Injustice to Director RIMS', 'Game Plan of a few anti-establishment', 'Keep peace in RIMS', 'Remove Deputy Secretary Iswar Singh' etc.

were displayed during the protest rally.

The protest was participated among others by Dr.Pravin Reddy, Principal of Dental College and Associate Professor Dr.Bishnupati.

Saying that Dr.Sekhorjit had taken up a number of development works in RIMS, Pravin Reddy decried his removal from the Director's post.

During the protest rally, Head of Anatomy Department Prof.Damayanti said removal of the Director without assigning any reasons and without giving any warning is objectionable.

She continued that Dr.Sekhorjit worked efficiently as head of RIMS and he has taken up many development activities in the institute.

Assigning the charge of Director to a professor who has crossed age limit for administrative works is condemnable and apprehensive of political maneuvering, she added.

As per guidelines, a person above 62 years of age cannot hold Director's charge, she stated and recounted that Dr.Ch.

Arunkumar was earlier relieved from the post of Superintendent of RIMS due to over age.
