Reporting on human trafficking and child sexual abuse : Sensitisation programme for scribes held

A one day training on media reporting of human trafficking and child sexual abuse was organized for journalists of Ukhrul district by FXB India Suraksha at Phungreitang, Ukhrul today.
During the training programme Manager of FXB India Suraksha Satya Prakash enlightened on ethical media reporting on human trafficking and child sexual abuse.
He said media practitioners should file stories in a holistic manner, giving a clear viewpoint by establishing the facts gathered from all concerned and not only from the victim.
According to him, in any circumstance the identity of the victim should not be disclosed to the public and is a considered a serious crime.
Satya mentioned that journalists have a great role to influence and change the mindset of the people.
Through their information, the victim seeking justice may get it and will also help preventing others in indulging in anti social activities.
The reporter should ensure that the stories or information should create a friendly environment for the victims.
And in the meantime, Wungpam Kasar JJ Board member, Ukhrul highlighted on POCSO and JJ Act.
He said CWC and JJB are two statutory bodies that look into the affairs of children.
According to him, children who are in need of care and protection have to be referred to CWC immediately while children in conflict with laws have to be dealt with through Juvenile Justice Board.
Under POCSO, sexual abuse of children below 12 years is a serious offence and is liable for life imprisonment even to the extent of death penalty.
All of members of Ukhrul District Working Journalists Association (UDWJA) led by president Thotshang Shaiza and former president of MHJU Sothing Shimray participated in the training programme.
