Ukhrul, February 18 2018: Works Minister Th Biswajit has stressed the need to organise cultural exchange programmes to bring unity and create a common platform for the people of Manipur to share their views and opinions and strengthen the relationship of all communities living in the State.

Cultural exchange programmes will surely change the mindset of the people, asserted Biswajit.

Speaking as the chief guest on Day III of Luira Phanit (Seed sowing festival) at Mission ground Alungtang, Ukhrul today, the Works Minister stated that though different communities reside in Manipur, all are bound together in one way or the other as the future of the people is common.

He urged people to develop positive outlook and ensure peaceful coexistence of all the communities.

Dwelling on the "Go to the Hills" slogan of the BJP led Government, the Works Minister said that the Government is committed to reach out to every nook and corner of the State and spread the message of oneness and work towards bringing equal development in the hills and valley.

Announcing development plans of Ukhrul district headquarters, the Works Minister said that the road on the western and eastern end of Ukhrul town will be repaired to ease traffic congestion while the approach road to the residence of the Headman of Hunphun /Ukhrul will be constructed.

Two major road constructions at Phungyar and Sanakeithei areas are in the pipeline, he added.

The Works Minister assured that the state of the dusty road at Ukhrul town will be discussed with the Chief Minister.

Ukhrul Autonomous District Council (UADC) Chairman Dickson Kumrah urged the visiting Works Minister to earmark more fund more development works of the district.

The third day of Luira festival saw the presentation of folk songs and traditional games including Lungchan Laa, Raikhangathat, tug of war, wrestling etc.

The programme was attended by TNL president Weapon Zimik as functional president, Works Commissioner Radhakumar, TSL president Grace Shatsang, chairman TYDF Lakpachui Siro, Headman in-charge of Hunphun Haoreingam, HSL president Agnes Shaiza and the VAs of Hunphun/Ukhrul villages as guests.
