Imphal, July 31 2010: NREGS job card holders of Luker Mayai Leikai under Imphal West district staged sit-in-protest to denounce alleged threat and intimidation by some individuals who claimed to be activists of Manipur Defence Force, a breakaway group of the proscribed KYKL outfit.

It is said that two individuals Dijen Ningthoujam and president of the local club (LWDC) Asem Kameshore were entrusted to monitor NREGS works within Luker Mayai Leikai with the consent of Awang Khunou Zilla Parishad member Nongthombam Pramodini Devi.

On July 28, Kameshore received a telephone call with the caller, who identified self as MDF member, insisting that NREGS-related works be stopped immediately failing which Kameshore will have to face the consequences.

The threat provoked the locals to stage the protest demonstration today.
