Imphal, July 09 2022: Governor La Ganesan visited Sugnu, Kakching district and had an interaction programme with MLAs, District Level Officers, Pradhans, civil society organisations and public today.

The programme was organized by District Administration, Kakching and was held at Chingtam Community Hall, Sugnu.

On his maiden visit to the sub-division, the Governor said that the world is facing an unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.

However, due to the prompt action of the Government, this dreaded disease is almost under control.

Unfortunately, during the last few days, the number of positive cases is increasing in the State, he said.

Therefore, he appealed to all to be alert and careful and urged all sections of society to get vaccinated.

To keep this disease under control and prevent it, vaccination is a must, the Governor stated.

He also highlighted the relentless efforts of health workers and front-line warriors calling them commendable and praiseworthy.

The Governor further expressed appreciation upon learning that the Government of India has committed to eliminate TB from the country by 2025 .

Therefore, he made an appeal for conducting a survey within the district in order to find out the number of TB patients and report the findings to the department concerned so as to enable them to carry out appropriate remedial measures.

On drug use, the Governor lauded the State Government's steps against poppy cultivation and also expressed disappointment on learning of the increasing number of drug users among the youth during the last few months.

He called for prevention of drug abuse with collective efforts of civil society organizations and the public.

He also said that the State Government has taken up massive tree plantation programmes in the State and expressed dismay that few sections of people resisted tree plantation programmes at few places.

Tree plantation programmes are not conducted in the interest of a few sections of the society but in the interest of the people of the world.

Therefore, he appealed to both the valley and hill people not to resist this philanthropic effort in the future.

Stating his concern on the use of plastic, the Governor said that the Government has banned use of plastic from July 1.He said that everyone should co-operate in banning the use of plastic in their respective localities.

Touching upon the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Governor asserted that this mission is intended to cover all the rural, urban areas and hill districts for maintaining cleanliness all over the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India, 'Clean India' .

Efforts of District and Sub-Divisional Level Officers with full cooperation from the public will keep the subdivision clean and green by strengthening the existing green environment and also by developing new green cover in the district, he opined.

During the interaction, people shared their grievances including shortage of doctors and staff at the Primary Health Centre and lack of infrastructure at hospital, shortage of teachers in Government schools, pathetic road condition and lack of women police.

Replying to the grievances of the people, the Governor assured everyone that the problems highlighted by the public, DLOs, CSOs as well as the representatives of the constituencies will be referred to the State Government for immediate necessary action.

Further, CMO Kakching informed that 79% of the district population had been vaccinated.

Later the Governor had an interaction programme with DLOs of Kakching district at Sugnu Municipal Council.

The interaction programme was attended by Dr Radheshyam Yumnam, MLA 38-Hiyanglam A/C; K Ranjit Singh, MLA 39-Sugnu A/C and Somorjit Salam, Deputy Commissioner Kakching district among others.
