Murder accused husband sent to judicial custody

A man accused of murdering his own wife, was remanded to judicial custody till July 17, after he was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today.
Laishram Oken (42) s/o (L) Juge of Chairen Makha Leikai, Kakching (presently staying at Kwakeithel Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai) was produced before the Court from the custody of Imphal PS along with a prayer for judicial custody remand.
The IO of the case, through the APP, submitted before the Court that on June 26, at around 6 pm, a written complaint was lodged by the nephew of the accused stating that while he was staying at Lamshang, he was informed that his aunty (the victim) had been beaten to death by her husband Oken at their rented house which is located at Kwakeithel Sega Road Khwairakpam Leikai.
When he rushed to the spot, he found his aunty lying dead on her bed while Oken had absconded after committing the crime.
On the same day, at around 11 pm, the accused was arrested from the chowkidar room of Sanskrit College, Sangaipat, where he took shelter after committing the crime.
During interrogation Oken admitted to the charges levelled against him and the weapon used in the crime, a bamboo stick, was recovered from the work shed near the place of the incident based on the revelation of the accused.
The IO also mentioned that while in police custody, the accused husband disclosed that on June 25, at around 9.30 pm, he along with two other individuals, including son of his rent owner, consumed some local made liquor at the work shed and he also gave some liquor to his wife who was staying inside the room.
After having dinner the two other individuals left their work shed and while he was trying to clean the place, his wife came out from the room and started confronting him under the influence of liquor.
Because of his wife's behaviour, he got irritated and picked up a bamboo stick and beat her on her left and right arms.
The IO further submitted that the accused also alleged that the victim tried to pick up a nearby stick and on seeing her intention, he started beating his wife on her chest, face, legs and arms with the stick.
His wife began bleeding from her nose and face before falling down unconscious on the ground and the whole scene was witnessed by his daughter, according to the accused.
Immediately his daughter came out from the room and poured some water on a cloth and cleaned her mother's face as well as the blood stained bamboo stick.
He alleged that after concealing the stick under the bamboo rack of the work shed and he transferred the victim to her bed with the help of his daughter.
In the morning of June 26, the accused realized that his wife was dead and as such, he immediately packed his cloths and left the place.
The Court went through the case diary as well as the prayer of the IO and satisfied with the materials, remanded the accused to judicial custody till July 17 .
