Imphal, July 29 2013:
Before the implementation of Food Security Scheme by the O Ibobi led Congress Government and UPA Government, Manipur People's Party has asked them to think deeper and establish a rate of rice produced by the farmers here and buy from them in the suitable rate.
A press release of MPP said, with the announcement of the implementation of Food Security Scheme in the Congress ruled States from August 20, 2013, the Ibobi Government should not implement any schemes in haste which will make the people suffer.
A State Procurement Policy should be adopted before the Food Security Scheme.
Due to the prolonged use of various fertilizers like urea, DAP etc when they were much cheaper and easily available years back, now the paddy fields of the State do not bear fruits without the use of fertilizers.
The rates of fertilizers have also increased incredibly and moreover the Government do not provide fertilizers to farmers in time, it stated.
The release further stated that the Government should produce a report at the earliest which let the people know about the rate and quantity of products of the farmers to be supllied to them every month.
Otherwise, the farmers efforts would go waste as their products would be replaced by that imported from other States.
