11 non-locals handed over to JCILPS
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, May 19 2018: In the midst of the demand for implementation of ILPS or a similarBill/law forprotection of the indigenous people of the State, Thangmeiband United Youth club detained 11 non-locals who did not possess any proper identification documents and handed them over to JCILPS Students' Wing today.

Speaking to media persons at JCILPS office at Sega Road Thouda Bhabok Leikai today, the Students' Wing convenor Manjit Sarangthem conveyed strong suspicion that the non-locals might be Rohingyas or Bangladesh is and raised concern that security forces may have been allowing such people to enter the State if theiy possess any documents (even if the papers are forged/not genuine) .

On the other hand, vice president of Thangmeiband United Youth Club, Pratap Leishangthem narrated that the 11 non-locals were detained at Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai auto parking at around 5 pm today.

It was revealed that they came from Silchar in a Tata Sumo vehicle (bearing registration number AS10C-2582) plying on Aizawl-Guwahati route.

When asked, the non-locals claimed that they were from Hailakandi, Assam but all of them were found in possession of forged Aadhaar cards and Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPIC).

When questioned further, they admitted that the cards were indeed forged, he disclosed.

Expressing concern at the incessant influx of nonlocals in such manners into the State at a time when the people are demanding implementation of ILPS, Pratap said that it would not be right to put the burden of the ILP movement on JCILPS alone.

The people of the State should be united in this regard and it is also imperative to find out whether the non-locals who were detained and then handed over to the police, were sent back home or not, he added.

The vice-president further informed that the non-locals detained by the club today were brought into the State by one Siraj (reportedly from Hailakandi as well) who is currently married to a local woman of Thangmeiband Tharol Khun.

Siraj revealed that the individuals were, brought in for works in bakeries and as masons and he has brought in such individuals into the State four to five times in the past, Pratap said.

Speaking to media persons, Manjit Sarangthem said that the State has been witnessing continous inflow of illegal migrants and workers and this has adverse impacts on the lives of the indigenous people.

There have been several reports of crimes committed by non-local people in the State.

Expressing strong suspicion that the 11 non-locals might be Rohingyas or Bangladeshis, Manjit urged the police and the authority concerned to refrain from letting such non-locals enter the State without proper verification.

Pointing out that one of the non-locals possessed an Aadhaar card whose address reads Dewlaland Imphal East, Bowarghat-1, Hailakandi Assam, the Students Wing convenor informed that the Aadhaar card is forged.

It has been confirmed from the Government of Assam that Aadhaar cards have not been issued to the residents of Hailakandi, Assam.

Manjit continued that? it is high time for the authorities concerned to start checking the documents of such non-locals properly and demanded the authorities concerned to take up proper actions against such immigrants entering the State illegally.

They should be sent to jail, rather than releasing or sending them back home as if nothing happened, he added.

Highlighting of possibility of Manipur becoming a safe haven for such illegal migrants and non-locals, Manjit Sarangthem said that it is high time for the indigenous people of the State to unite together.

JCILPS along with the people will also begin verification drive of non-locals living in rented houses/rooms in different parts of the State, he added.
