Imphal, April 18 2015 :
A one day sensitization programme on climate change in agriculture was held today at ICAR Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat.
According to a statement, the programme was inaugurated by Dr N Prakash, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Prakash stated that rainfall has become erratic due to climate change.

Suitable variety of crops with less water requirement, proper pest management and judicious nutrient management are important in this context.
In the hills, organic farming is adopted by default, Dr Prakash remarked.
He also advised the farmers to take advantage of weather forecasting facilities available at the centre.
Seeds of Paddy (RC Maniphou 10 & RC) , groundnut (ICGS 76) and Soyabean (JS 335) were distributed to 35 selected farmers from seven districts of Manipur , namely, Imphal East, Imphal West, Chandel, Senapati, Ukhrul, Tameng-long and Churachandpur.
In the technical session, Prof L Nabachandra Singh of CAU, N Arunkumar Singh and N Ajit Singh of ICAR spoke as the resource persons, it added.
