Massive protests held against offensive of Kuki militants

Imp/Kak/Tbl, June 07 2023: Massive protest was carried out yesterday night marked by human chain formation and torch rally at various places at Imphal East, Kakching, Thoubal and Yairipok against the atrocities of Kuki militants.

The protests were carried out as per the appeal made by Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) to stage protest demonstrations against the unabated illegal activities of Kuki militants upon the civilians and 'the alleged support rendered by Assam Rifles by being silent spectators to such heinous acts' .

Slogans like 'We condemn atrocities of Kuki militants', 'Withdraw Assam Rifles from Manipur', 'Revoke SoO pact with Kuki militants', 'Long Live Kangleipak', 'No compromise on Manipur's Territorial Integrity', 'Implement NRC immediately' etc echoed during the protest.

Pledging support to COCOMI's call, a large number of womenfolk of Thoubal Moirang Palli and Kshetrileikai carried out a torch rally till Thoubal Melaground.

Human chain was formed along the Asian Highway starting from Tanjeng till Athokpam Khangabok by womenfolk of Tangjeng, Kiyam Siphai, Babu Bazar, Haokha, Okram, Thoubal Wangmataba, Thoubal Bazar, Thoubal Achouba, Ningombam, Non gangkhong, Mela ground, Athokpam, Khangabok and surrounding areas of Thoubal district.

Similar protests were also staged at Thoubal Leishangthem Bazar till Kelimakhong, Khekman.

Hundreds of women from Wangjing, Lamding, Khongjom, Langathel, Tekcham and Tentha too staged torch rally and formed human chain to mark their protest.

Various slogans were raised by the protestors in Yairipok Laimanai, Top-chingtha, Yambem, Nungaipokpi, Leirongthel Pitra, Nungbrang, Nongpok Keithelmanbi and Laikhong, Tumukhong Moirangpurel in Imphal East district.

A number of Meira Paibis and youths of Pourabi and neighbouring villages took out a torch rally from Pourabi till Sawombung Tejpur Chingarel.

Supporting the protest, wide scale protests were carried out in Kakching district as well mainly at Kakching, Keirak, Wabagai, Laimanai, Lamjao, Hiyanglam, Langmeidong, Thongjao, Elangkhangpokpi and Wangoo etc.

Similar protest was also staged at different localities of Wangoo under Sugnu AC.

Meira Paibis of Sapam Maning Leikai of Khongjom Sapam staged a sit-in protest today at the community hall of the locality and raised slogans demanding for the protection of State's territorial integrity.

Seeking Govt's attention to reinstate peace and normalcy in grief stricken State, members of Women Development Association, Thangalawai Sabal Leikai along with the locals staged a sit-in today at the locality which is under Thanga Assembly Constituency in Bishnupur district.
