Two day District Level Micro watershed Training programme conducted at Senapati

A two day district level training programme on "Institution and Capacity Building for Development of Micro Watershed Project in Hills" was organized by the District Officer, Horticulture &Soil Conservation from 9th – 10th July, 2014 at the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) conference hall.
The development of micro watershed project in the hills under the Watershed Development Project on Shifting Cultivation Area (WPDSCA) a sub –scheme of Rastrya Krishi Vigya Yojna (RKVY) was sponsored by the Department of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Manipur.
About 40 participants, attended the two day event coming from the four villages of Kabung Khunou, Ngatan, Pumdumlong and Robve Solphe villages.
"The four villages were enlisted for the scheme as other villages were covered by the Integrated Watershed Management Project (IWMP), of the DRDA, as such the scheme could not be overlapped." stated Th.Biren Singh D.O (H&SC), Senapati, who was also the presiding officer of inauguration of the said, training.
The inauguration of the training was officiated by Dr.N Binabon Singh, DAO, Senapati as Chief Guest and Th.Biren Singh D.O (H&SC), Senapati, as the presiding officers.
Various reputed resource persons from varied fields and expertise facilitated the training including Dr.A Herojit Singh, Ass.

Dr.Binabon Singh, DAO, speaking on the occasion motivated the trainees to extract maximum from the training as it is capacity building, which will address to the need of the hour by refining and realizing leadership skills and enterprising potentials to be further developed and not only in the prism of watershed management.
"It is a regrettable situation in our surroundings that environment is at jeopardize by filing trees to meet the needs of human.
As such, the capacity building must enhance the quality of perseverance, courage and self confidence to bring about changes in conservation and preservation of soil and plants", remarked the agriculture officer.
The presiding officer and technical resource person Th.Biren Singh, D.O (H&SC), Senapati also addressed the training inauguration.
He stated that he was overwhelm by the gender representation in the training by sharing his experience in other part of the district, that males attain the training and receives the sanction but the actual implementation is usually by the women folk.
The District officer of H&SC, also pointed out prevailing fact on the need and importance of watershed management that the shortage of water in many hilly district is basically due to none conservation and protection of soil.
He also cited examples to inspire the trainees, efforts and hardships endured by outside states across the country to preserve water through conservation and tree plantation, to the extent of organic farming, but the district blessed with fertile soil failed to realized the importance of it.
"Population explosion a social issue pertaining to India, is another major challenge in maintaining and managing the conservation of forest and soils but a shift to other means of earning can be a viable solution", he stated.
