Imphal, October 18 2013 :
The solid waste management plant being constructed by MAHUD De-partment at Lamdeng under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Rene-wal Mission (JNURM) is like- ly to be completed in De-cember.
In the meantime, an understanding has been reached for disposal of waste materials at Lamphelpat for a temporary period.
The solid waste management plant which would treat and convert waste materials into useful compost is targeted for completion by De- cember and the Government is planning to commission the plant in January next year, informed MAHUD Commissioner S Sunderlal.
Necessary machinery for the plant have been brought to the project site while some others are on the way.
All the machinery currently enroute to Manipur are expected to arrive shortly.

A team of the Ramkey Environs Engineering Limited would come to Imphal on October 20.The team would start assembling the machinery apart from roofing the building.
A visit to the plant site by this reporter confirmed that major portions of the construction work have been completed.
The reporter also saw HT line being connected up to the plant.
Construction of approach road to the plant has been completed up to WBM stage and it is yet to be black-topped.
On the other hand, the complaint about health hazards posed by disposal of waste materials emanating from Imphal city at KRYPSA ground, Lamphelpat and subsequent prohibition of dis- posing waste materials in the area has been lifted temporarily after a joint meeting, in- formed one official of MAHUD.
MAHUD officials, IMC Chairperson, representatives of the All Community Welfare Association, Langol Games Village and Lamphel Shemgat Shagatpa Lup held a meeting yesterday.
The meeting came to an agreement that waste materials would be disposed at Lamphelpat for some more time until the solid waste management plant is commissioned.
However, Manipur Pollution Control Board is suspicious that some layers of earth are missing in between piles of garbage and waste materials being disposed at KRYPSA ground.
It is said that there should be a layer of earth between every two piles of waste materials of certain thickness.
This helps in reducing the degree of stench emanating from the garbage disposal site, informed another source.
