Imphal, October 13, 2013:
Strongly coming out against highly revolting stench and pollution of air and ground due to random dumping of wastes at the Lamphelpat dumping site local residents under the joint aegis of All Community welfare Association, Langol Games Village and Lamphel Semgat Sagatpa Nupising Apunba Lup have totally prohibited disposal of waste at the dumping site near KRYPSA football club ground.
While ban on waste dumping came into effect since evening yesterday, volunteers of the Association and the Lup joined the locals in staging a sit-in-protest at KRYPSA Ground today.
According to one Y Kamalini Devi continuous dumping of domestic wastes collected from the market places as well as residential pockets of the capital city is posing serious health threat to the locals as garbage have started to spill over to the roads due to absence of an effective mechanism to either recycle the wastes or pile them in a uniform and compact manner.

Regretting that Zero Garbage policy of Imphal Municipal Council has resulted in Lamphelpat becoming one of the largest waste dumping sites in Manipur, she also asked IMC authority to honour an agreement reached between the then agitating people of Game Village Zone-IV and erstwhile IMC chairperson that waste disposal activity would completely cease at the KRYPSA ground site from January 12, 2012 onwards.
Even as the locals had been voicing opposition against waste dumping at lamphelpat areas since the very beginning the Government continues to ignore suffering of the people, expressed Kamalini pointing out that it is impossible to either have a meal at home or partake in public/religious feast at the locality due to the rotting garbage at the dumping site.
Declaring that decision has been taken to prohibit dumping of waste in and around the locality and suggesting that the State Government locate a fresh site far from human habitat, she affirmed that in case any attempt is made for forcible waste material discarding the locals too would face any eventuality.
Some garbage-loaded trucks spotted heading towards the dumping site this morning were asked to go away, Kamalini said.
