Imphal, February 06: Reiterating its objection to imposition of the prescribed age limit of UPSC in connection with the conduct of the combined competitive examination for MCS and MPS posts by the MPSC and the demand for revocation of the 2005 State Cabinet decision of one time age relaxation for appearing in the said examination, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has banned the advertisement issued by MPSC yesterday in connection with recruitment of MCS and MPS posts.

Addressing a press conference at its office today, DESAM president H Ashirjit said DESAM would also impose ban on issuing of the form as well as the conduct of the combined examination until revocation of the State Cabinet decision to relax the age for general, OBC and SC/ST candidates upto 35, 38 and 40 years respectively.

In case of any untoward incident when MPSC tries to use force and issue the forms and conduct the examination, the responsibility should be entirely bore by the State Government and the MPSC authority, Ashirjit stated.

Asserting that the prescribed norms of the UPSC should not be imposed in Manipur at all, the student leader explained that due to failure of maintaining academic calendar, a student attains at least 25 or 26 years of age by the time of completing the BA/B Sc course or above 30 years by the time of finishing MA/M Sc in Manipur.

On the other hand, since its inception in 1972, MPSC has conducted only 7 examinations at the rate of one examination in every 5 years although UPSC has been conducting the examination every year.

While observing that in States like Punjab and Haryana, the prescribed age limit for appearing in the civil service examination is 35 for general candidates, 38 for OBC and 40 for SC/ST candidates, Ashirjit observed that prescription of the age limit of the candidates to appear in such examination is a State subject which is to be decided by the States concerned.

So imposition of the laid down norms of the UPSC is not relevant, he added.

Reiterating that the norms of the UPSC should not be imposed in Manipur where MPSC could not conduct examination every year, the student leader also questioned by the examination could not be held every year in Manipur to fill up the vacant posts of MCS and MPS.
