While expressing its deep concern over the alleged manhandling of M Naobi Chanu by Manipur police commandos in their custody, All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has said that it is beyond doubt that ten innocent Hmar girls at Lungthuilain village of Churachandpur district were raped on January 16 by cadres of "non-tribal" underground organisations.
ANSAM termed the incident as "beastly act of mass rape committed on the ten innocent Hmar girls." The Naga students' body stated that the act was a horrifying and shameful one "because it dishonoured the dignity of women and humanity".
The ANSAM said that the culprits while calling themselves freedom, fighters was exploiting the innocent and helpless girls, which is dehumanizing.
It further stated that such "beastly and devilish" act would only serve as a deterrent to "their so called movement".
ANSAM expressed that at this juncture, it shared its solidarity with the rape victims to fight for justice.
The student body called upon all the sensible organisations and individuals to join hands in fighting those evil forces who work against the hill people in particular and humanity in general.
