Imphal, September 26 2009: Personally enquiring physical and mental suffering being besieging villagers in the aftermath of the recent murder of four persons at Happyland and Chingnungkhok, Health and Family Welfare Minister Ph Parijat stressed that campaigns need to be launched to bar entry of rogue underground activists in villages to ensure prevalence of peace and tranquillity.

The Minister during his visit to Happyland today to express solidarity to the violence-effected villagers also offered floral tributes to Joyson Ningkhan and Venture Shaiza, who were found shot dead at Chingnungkhok area on September 23 .

His tour also covered the nearby Chingnungkhok village and shared grief of the family members of Laithangbam Regan, who was one of two persons shot dead on September 21 .

Parijat was accompanied by former Minister AS Arthur, ex-MLA Aja and social activist Victor Keishing.

in addition to handing over Rs 5000 each to families of the victims on behalf of the CPI Local Council, the Minister also provided 10 quintal rice to the villagers who are reeling under the impact of the gruesome murders.

Moreover, he donated Rs 5000 to wife of Vareiso Luikham, who is the Happyland village chief and whose house was burnt down by armed activists.

Later, the Minister speaking at meetings held at the effected villages grimly noted that as a consequence of relentless killing with mostly younger people at the receiving end of the violence, manipur is staring at a bleak future.

He also asked perpetrators of the criminal acts to introspect as to why innocent, peace loving and unarmed citizens are being constantly butchered.

Cautioning that Manipuri society is being traumatised by certain insurgent groups whose principle and activities are highly questionable, he proclaimed that time is ripe enough to campaign for prohibiting entry of extremists in order to promote and maintain peaceful co-existence amongst various communities.

The need of the hour necessitates unified movement by the general public to drive home the point to extremist elements that there is no need for rogue elements to exist in the midst of peace loving citizens, he opined.

apparently referring to the unstable situation manipur is passing through at the current juncture, he described as unacceptable continuous demand for resignation of an elected representative to resign from the Chief Ministership.

Sustaining demand for resignation of the Chief Minister for about a week is a healthy sign of democracy but when agitated parties insist that agitations would persist until and unless their demand is achieved or granted and the movement include forced closure of educational institutions there is an element of doubt of whether the agitation is heading in the right direction, he maintained.

Reflecting on the Chief Minister's assurance to a JAC delegation that demands placed by happyland villagers would be considered positively, Parijat appreciated the violence effected villagers for trusting O ibobi Singh and affirmed that all possible assistance from the Govt's side would be extended.

The villagers conveyed to the Minister that inspite of neighbouring villages reeling under the killing spree there is feeling of hatred or enmity as all the villagers are determined to restore the age-old fraternal ties.
