Imphal, April 03:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has come out strongly against the declaration of April 5 as a State holiday by the Government.
In a statement, secretary of education and academic affairs of the student body KC Ibomcha said although it is the bounden duty of all the people to acknowledge the feats of the State contingent in the 33rd National Games, 2007 held at Guwahati, declaration of holiday on April 5 to felicitate the players would affect the academic calendar of the student community in the State.
He pointed out that the 1st and the 3rd year final examination of BA, B Sc and B Com of the Manipur University is scheduled to begin from April 5 and if the Government has declared a State holiday on such a day even for all the educational institutions without thinking about the future of the students, then it is really unfortunate.
Such decision of the Government would also give a serious setback to those who are trying to usher in quality education along ensuring proper maintenance of the academic calendar in the State, Ibomcha said.
