The first Indo-Myanmar Car rally that arrived at Imphal yesterday has been flagged off on its last leg in Indian territory by the Officiating GOC of 57 Mountain Division Brig NS Bawa from Khuman Lampak Sports complex here today.
The rally comprising of 45 members33 from the Indian Army and 12 from the Myanmarese Army was flagged off by Union Defence Minister AK Antony on December 5 from New Delhi.
Led by Lt Col KS Chauhan, the rally is being organised from New Delhi to Yangon and back to the starting point to honour the 20,000 martyred soldiers of both India and Myanmar who died during World War II fighting under the British flag in Myanmar.
Before flagging off the rally from Imphal today, a reception function was hosted in honour of the participating rallyists during a brief function in which Brig Bawa welcomed them.
While observing that the Red Shield Division had the unique privilege and honour to host the 'Indian and Myanmarese brother officers', Brig Bawa said 'You people have already covered a distance of about 2500 kms across the various States of India and have had the opportunity of seeing the various cultural mosaic of our country first hand'.
The Officiating GOC also extended his best wishes to the participants of the rally.
